Are Japanese low-mileage engines really more reliable? 50,000 km vs 100,000 km engine performance comparison test

Are All JDM Engines So Reliable As They Say?

If that sounds harsh, engines can't last for ever after all and reliability is the key. A lot of people also seem to think that low-mileage Japanese engines are more reliable than high-mileage versions. But is this really true? To find out, the professionals at Fengshunhua staged a showdown between a 50,000 km engine and a 100,000 km engine.

A Performance Comparison

In our experiments, we tested the engine performance of a 50,000 km Japan- ese engine and a 100,000 km Japan- ese engine. Both are well-serviced engines that are in excellent condition prior to testing. To be fair, we put both gas pedal designs on the gas tank at the fill station and tested the gas pedals with gasolines of the same type.

Which Comes Out on Top?

According to the various tests, consisting of acceleration, fuel economy, and entire engine performance, the results were unexpected. The 50,000 km engine also exhibited a slightly higher rate of acceleration and fuel economy than the 100,000 km engine. Still -- when it comes to overall engine performance and dependability, both engines were equally reliable.

Are Low Mileage Japanese Engines Better Than The Higher Mileage?

From our test findings we can confirm that low-mileage Japanese engines do make a difference in terms of both acceleration and fuel efficiency when compared to higher mileage engines. But for total engine performance and reliability the difference isn't much. It just proves how important the quality of an engine and the quality of the maintenance is over mileage.

Is Less Mileage Really More?

Low mileage engines definitely have some advantage, but that doesn’t always make them better than high mileage engines. There is no mileage at which an engine will fail if taken care of and maintained properly. So it's very important to look at the health of the engine, rather than reliance on what the mileage is before making a decision.
